Biographie
Jesper Rübner-Petersen est né le 8 juillet 1969 à Arhus (DK), où il grandit baigné dans le bluegrass et la musique acoustique avec son père banjoïste. A l'âge de 12 ans, il commence à jouer de la guitare et très tôt, joue dans différents groupes danois de musique Old-Time et Bluegrass. Jesper a toujours été ouvert aux nouvelles influences et en Mars 1993, il a complété sa formation en jazz à l'American Institute of Music à Vienne / Autriche. en 1994, il acquiert sa première mandoline dans le but d'essayer un deuxième instrument - cet achat allait changer sa vie ! Dès ce moment, il se produit dans de nombreux concerts et festivals à travers l'Europe, troquant de plus en plus la guitare pour son nouvel instrument "number one" : la mandoline. En juillet 2000, Jesper s'établit dans le sud de l'Allemagne où il commence une carrière professionnelle d'enseignant pour la guitare et la mandoline. Au même moment, il devient professeur titulaire aux stages de Beppe Gambetta en Slovénie, de musique acoustique à Virton, det la « New Acoustic Gallery » en Allemagne et d’autres stages locaux.Jesper a écrit un livre vendu à plus de 5000 exemplaires sur la mandoline intitulé « The Mandolin Pickers’s Guide to Bluegrass Improvisation (publié par Mel Bay en 2010)
Au fil des ans, Jesper a développé son propre style et son propre son en se basant sur la musique bluegrass trad et moderne, sur le swing et le jazz.

Programme :
Le matin :(Morceaux, Solo, accompagnement et improvisation)
Chaque matin, nous allons apprendre et jouer quelques nouveaux morceaux et quelques solos bluegrass, Oldtime, New Acoustic Music, Newgrass, Swing, etc. Nous apprendrons aussi à jouer un ou deux solos des plus grands joueurs de mandoline. A côté de ces apprentissages, nous allons travailler sur les différentes façons d'accompagner ces morceaux. Les matinées seront également consacrées à l’improvisation. Le tout dans une ambiance décontractée alliant jeu, théorie et exercices d'apprentissage intéressants.
L’après-midi : (Questions et souhaits particuliers)
Chaque étudiant aura la possibilité de poser des questions au sujet de ses problèmes ou de souhaits spécifiques. Les sujets spéciaux peuvent aussi être traités en petits groupes. Les temps libres permettront de se concentrer sur l'apprentissage et la pratique de son instrument ou à la réalisation d'exercices.
Niveaux requis : la classe est ouverte à tous les niveaux (mandolinistes ou autres instrumentistes à cordes ayant une pratique de 2 ans sur leur instrument). Les leçons sont données dans un anglais facilement compréhensible. Tous les morceaux sont écrits en tablatures, mais si vous préférez la notation standard, faites-le savoir. Les élèves recevront avec leur cours un CD reprenant tous les morceaux étudiés, enregistrés en vitesse lente.

Biography
Jesper Rübner-Petersen was born on the 8th of July 1969 in Aarhus, Denmark, where he grew up with Bluegrass and Acoustic Music which he experienced from his banjo playing father. At the age of 12 Jesper started to play the guitar and very soon he was playing in different Oldtime and Bluegrass Bands, performing at gigs and festivals all over Europe. Besides playing bluegrass, Jesper decided to follow the jazz program at the "American Institute of Music" in Vienna (Austria), which he completed in March 1993. Around 1994, after years of intensive guitar playing, Jesper bought himself a mandolin in order to try out a second instrument, - a purchase which changed his life. In July 2000 Jesper moved to South-Germany, where he also started a professional career as a guitar and mandolin teacher. At the same time, he started teaching at Beppe Gambetta's Summer-Workshop, the International Workshop Musique Acoustique in Belgium, the Mandolin-Workshop at the New Acoustic Gallery and other local workshops. Also Jespers book about Bluegrass improvisation (released by Mel Bay in spring 2010) have been a great success, with more then 5000 sold copies.
Over the years, Jesper has always been devoted to developing his own style and sound while playing everything from traditional and modern Bluegrass to Swing and Jazz.

Program
Morning lessons:(Tunes, Solos, Back-up and Improvisation)
In the morning lessons we’ll learn and play some new tunes and solos in the styles of Bluegrass, Oldtime, New Acoustic Music, Newgrass, Swing, etc. And we’ll also play one or two transcribed solos from one of the great mandolin masters. Beside learning the tunes, we’ll work on various ways to accompany those tunes. In the morning lessons some improvisation techniques will be taught too. - These morning-lessons will be done in a relaxed atmosphere combining playing, theory and interesting learning-exercises.
Afternoon lessons:(Questions and extra wishes)
In the afternoon lessons each student has the possibility to ask questions concerning his specific problems or wishes. Special subjects can also be treated in smaller groups and spare time can be used for learning and practising tunes or doing assignments.
From 4:30 to 5:30:
In the “inter-class” lessons we have the possibilities to meet with other students to make jam-sessions (organized by the teachers).
Attention to all students:the workshop will be open to all levels of players (playing the mandolin or an other stringed instrument for at least two years). The lessons will be taught in easy understandable English. All tunes will be written out in tablature/standard notation. The students will get a recorded CD, including all of the learned tunes played in a slow speed.
